Wedding

“Hey, Touya. I found you. The wedding is starting,” Yuki runs to me.

“Hmm...” I pretend brusqueness.

“Because you’ve approved their marriage means you’ve got to attend the ceremony to congratulate. Sakura is dressed totally beautiful,” Yuki stresses.

“Yeah, I’m coming. There’s no reason I should object.”

My sister is getting married today. That means she’s leaving home. Of course, I already live on my own, so we’ve been living separately for a while... But this is different, I suppose. Everything will be different from today on. Come to think of it, how many times did I get in their way? On the day she first saw him, I believed I could keep them back. When they were developing their friendship, I still believed I could change the future.

I’ve relied on Yue to protect Sakura since I gave whole my powers to Yuki. Nevertheless, I never approved him, or didn’t want to approve. That’s why I never want to trust him even though he has grawn out of a brat.

When he and Sakura asked me for approval for their marriage, I enumerated their flaws like “You’re merely students,” “How can you earn your living?” and such. But I gasped with a shock when I realized one thing:

What did I have to prevent her dream from coming true for? I wondered if I was an obstacle of her happiness myself.

I’m sure he is the only one that can make her happy; I knew it since long before, but it was not until two months ago that I asked:

“When are you having your wedding?”

My unexpected question amazed them totally; they widened their eyes, looking at each other with nothing they could speak. Their reaction looked so funny to me that I laughed. I thought all my anxiety I had felt before was gone, though...

I was kind of feeling unsatisfied under a cherry tree though the wedding was about to start. In a comfortable breeze, I was in depression, not knowing why I can’t be honest to my heart to bring myself to celebrate the two of them. It was when Yuki found me. As if he could read my feeling or whatever, he takes me by the hand, saying, “Touya, you know everything, don’t you? That Sakura will be very happy. Nothing to worry about. Sakura sure knows how much you mean to her.”

“Yuki, it’s not this way. Are you going...” I was upset.

“I know. She’s waiting for you. So is Syaoran.”

Yuki takes me to one of the door back of the ceremonial hall, when the door slowly opens.

Inside the room is standing Sakura dressed in a wedding outfit, made of gorgeously frilled white material that was lightly overlapped with pink. The dress truly matches her, appealing her purity. The sophisticated details revealed how dedicatedly it was designed. The woman who was adjusting her dress by her side was one of the foremost cloth designers.

“What do you think? This looks beautiful, doesn’t it? Just because Sakura is way too pretty,” the designer sang the praise.

“Tomoyo, I appreciate it you dedicated this extra design even though you’re busy with your official works,” I say.

“Sakura’s wedding, it’s worth a dedication. Today I have ten video cameras tape the ceremony; I hired them specially for today. Syaoran is getting dressed in the next room,” Tomoyo replies.

At this time, a voice comes across from the room.

“Your tie isn’t straight yet, Syaoran! I know you’re dying to see your bride as soon as possible, but you gotta...”

“It must be Meiling. Speaking of which, Syaoran is Chinese so this is a mixed marriage, isn’t it. But I wonder why they don’t follow Chinese or Japanse style?” Tomoyo said in a puzzled look.

I knew the reason. Syaoran gave up the succession of Li family for the sake of Sakura. That’s very why they wanted to hold their wedding as they wish not obeying culture or convention.

Even when I’ve left the room, I keep thinking... about trivial anxiety, and everything I could remember about Sakura.

Dad is welcoming Li family at the entrance. Sonomi is directing the decoration in the ceremonial hall and arrangement of the banquet. They are working for the sake of Sakura’s happiness. What can I do?

I must be the only stupid person who is depressed in the wedding.

“Touya,” Sakura called me from the lobby with Syaoran standing beside her. Her smile gave me a hint.

I just realized that all I have to do to make Sakura happy is to be here to celebrate her marriage from the bottom of my heart. There are lots of forms of happiness, I can tell, depending on people, but none of them are meaningless.

If you mean much to someone there must be a way to make them happy. Now I managed to find a way—I turned to them with a smile as I say, “Congratulations for your wedding.”

God bless the two in love who are stepping on the start of their new life.

The End

Postscript

Actually, when I was writing this fic, I thought Touya may be likely to approve their marriage because he is a good brother at heart. In my fic, Tomoyo is a cloth designer, but I also thought she can be a professional singer as well... I wish Kero and Yue had been in the story, but Touya’s POV made it difficult, so forgive me.
