Mermaid Princesses

Sakura was a junior high school girl, who had lived her happy life since she had finished transforming Clow Cards to Sakura Cards. She got along well with Tomoyo, who was her classmate like the past. Sakura was just the same way that she had used to be. But today, some people came to take Sakura away from her normal life. Kinomoto family was energetic that morning as usual.

“Sakura, you’d better hurry. You’re gonna be late,” Kerberus hastened Sakura.

“Hummm...” Sakura woke up rubbing her eyelids, but in the next minute, “Hoeee! I’m gonna be late!” screamed and changed into her uniform before getting downstairs.

“Morning,” Sakura said as she run into the kitchen, and then said “Morning,” to the picture of her mother on the table.

“Late morning, kaijuu,” Toya smirked.

“I am not a kaijuu, Touya,” Sakura protested, “I’m 13. I’m not a kid any more.”

“But you are a kaijuu,” her brother playfully grinned.

“You there...” Sakura groaned.

Her father, Fujitaka, walked in, “Good morning, Sakura and Touya.”

“Morning, Dad,” Sakura said cheerfully.

“Uh, if you don’t hurry you’ll be late,” her father said.

“Hoe...? Hoeee!” On checking the clock, Sakura ate breakfast hurriedly, took her plates to the sink, went headed for the front door. “See you later. I’m gonna be late!”

Walking for five minutes, she got to school. It was Tomoeda Junior High. She ran up to her classroom. “Morning, everyone,” she said when she came in the classroom. “Morning,” said Rika, Chiharu, and Naoko. “Good morning, Sakura,” Tomoyo smiled at her. “Oh, yeah, Tomoyo, we’re classmates again,” Sakura said happily in amazement.

“I’m happy to be your classmate, Sakura,” Tomoyo added.

“Hey, here comes our teacher!” Takashi said.

“Here’s the homeroom, take your seats,” the teacher said as soon as he walked in. “I’m your homeroom teacher, Mr. Kotobuki, nice to meet you all.” “Well, then,” he continued, “we have transfer students. Come on in.” He waved the transfer students in who were waiting out in the hall. The door of the classroom slowly opened.

“These are Norah Steffany and Sarah Steffany,” Mr. Kotobuki introduced the transfer students, “they came from the U.S. Be kind to these girls, they are handicapped. Norah can’t talk and Sarah can’t hear. You two sit... behind Sakura and Tomoyo.”

Sakura felt like she had met them before somewhere though it was the very first time she met them. She felt as if she met them when she was little.

“Nice to meet you,” Sarah said and Norah greeted with sign language.

“The first period is math. Your math teacher is Mr. Miura,” said Mr. Kotobuki, “Take out your textbook, and stay tuned.”

“Yes,” the students replied.

“Mmmm... I don’t like math,” Sakura groaned, “I don’t like math...”

At this time, Sakura sensed a strong presence. The presence was full of magic powers, stronger than Sakura’s and evern Clow Reed’s.

“I’m sensing something...” she mumbled.

“Sensing what?” Tomoyo asked.

“I thought I sensed... some magical powers,” Sakura replied.

“Hey, Sakura and Tomoyo, stay out in the hall,” Mr. Miura, the math teacher, gave them a red card.

“Yeah...” the two girls walked out.

They kept standing till the lunch time. They had sore feet.

“Being a junior high school student isn’t easy,” Sakura whispered when her stomach grawls, “I’m hungry.”

“Just a little more. Bear it, Sakura,” Tomoyo encouraged her.

Mr. Kotobuki walked by, “Hey, Sakura and Tomoyo. Are you still standing? It’s OK. You can go now.”

“Thank you, Mr. Kotobuki. Hey, Sakura, let’s go,” Tomoyo said.

“Hoee...” Sakura followed her exhaustedly.

They went into the courtyard. They saw a boy bully Norah and Sarah. He said, “Hey... Can’t you talk? And... you, listen carefully. There!” He throttle Sarah.

“Ughh... Stop it...” she groaned.

Sakura and Tomoyo stepped into the scene. Sakura shouted, “Norah and Sarah, are you OK? You rat, what right have you got to do this?”

The boy turned and ran away.

“Norah and Sarah, are you all right?” Tomoyo asked worriedly.

“Norah!” Sarah shouted, “Keep it up. Did it attack you again?”

“Hey, Sarah, what just attacked her?” Sakura asked.

“I’ll tell you later. Call a teacher for help,” Sarah shouted.

Tomoyo brought Mr. Kotobuki, and they took Norah to the infirmary. Norah groaned in agony.

“Sarah, what just happened to her...?” Sakura asked again.

Sarah replied quietly, “Norah is sickly... since we were little. She has heart trouble since she was six.”

“Is that so...” Sakura mentioned sadly, “I’m sorry to meke you explain such things.”

“No, that’s OK,” Sarah said.

Norah woke up at that moment, but looked pale. “Where am I?” she asked in sign language.

“Are you OK? We’re in the infirmary,” Sakura replied gently.

“How did you know what she said?” Sarah asked in a puzzled look.

“Uh... I’m not sure, but I somehow knew what she said,” Sakura replied.

“Huph, Norah... she could be...” Sarah whispered to her sister.

Norah replied in signed language, “Could be... I guess we’ll check it when we get home.”

“Hoe? What do you mean?”

“Uh... nothing... nothing special,” Sarah laughed nervously.

At this time, the bell tolled to sign the fifth period of class.

“Fifth period, let’s go to the classroom,” Tomoyo hastened the other girls.

The fifth period was over, and then homeroom class was over. Sakura turned to look at Tomoyo and said, “I have to tell you this...”

“What is it... Sakura?”

“I guess... I feel” Sakura slowly continued, “like that I’ve met Norah and Sarah before.”

“Sakura, I’m afraid you’re very tired,” Tomoyo said anxiously, “Maybe you need a good rest today.”

“Ummm... you may be right, Tomoyo. See you tomorrow,” Sakura said.

“See you,” Tomoyo smiled.

Sakura was thinking hard in her room. Why in the world... she feel as if she had met them somewhere before. Kerberus worried about Sakura deep in thought, “What’s biting you, Sakura?”

Sakura replied, “We had transfer students... twins coming from the U.S., Norah Steffany and Sarah Steffany... I feel as if I had met them before. And I sensed magical powers stronger than Clow Reed.”

“That’s too funny. Eriol is back in England, so nothing could happen. Anyway, you gotta carry Sakura Cards in case anything ever happens,” Kerberus advised.

“Yeah, I will, Kero,” Sakura said, “Have I got to tell Syaoran about this thing?”

“No... you better not tell the brat,” Kerberus answered.

“Why not?”

“Suppose he’s involved and getting into a serious trouble. His mother wouldn’t forgive you,” he replied, “Besides, you can handle it on your own.”

“Oh, yes...” Sakura’s face brightened, “I can handle it.”

That night, Sakura used the Dream Card. That was because she wanted to know what her mother Nadeshiko’s secret was.

“Key that holds the power of the star, show your true form before me. I, Sakura command you under the covenant,” Sakura casted a spell, “Release! Dream!”

She called the Dream Card and asked for what she wanted, “I want to know my mother’s secret—what she was like before she died. I wonder if she had anything to do with Norah and Sarah.”

By the help of the Dream Card, she could see a dream. There was a castle in the depth of ocean. A lot of wrecked ship lay nearby. It was the middle of the Pacific Ocean. Entering the castle, Sakura saw the pink, orange, and white pearl mermaid princesses. The mother came to where those mermaids were playing merrily. They said to the mother, “Mom, let’s play together.”

All of a sudden, there was an explosion. They saw Jake.

“You’re the one who did it?” Nadeshiko, the mother mermaid shouted.

“Who are you talking to?” Jake said, “You’ll be toast!”

“Help me, Mom!” the white pearl mermaid princess screamed.

“Sis!” the pink and the orange mermaid princesses gasp in surprise. In the next moment, Nadeshiko was killed.

“Sarah and Sakura, get out of here!” the white pearl mermaid cried.

“What? She said my name...” Sakura blinked her eyes.

“Sis!” cried the two mermaid princesses, at the moment the white pearl mermaid princess was caught by Jake. The two mermaid princess named Sarah and Sakura found the letter that Nadeshiko left there, which read, “He’s after you, Sarah and Sakura. Hurry up and go up in the human world.”

Sakura woke up, because she ran out of Dream’s power.

“What in the world... I had sisters?” Sakura mumbled.

“What happened, Sakura,” Kerberus woke up, too.

“I... had a dream,” Sakura mentioned.

“Dream... what was it like?”

“Mom was a mermaid. I don’t remember clearly, but she was killed by someone,” Sakura answered.

“It could be a prophetic dream...” he said in a subdued voice, “Your mother was a mermaid means that you, Sakura, are a mermaid, too. Uh, are there any of your mother’s keepsake?”

“Mom’s keepsake...” Sakura rolled her eyes.

“Luckily, it’s Sunday,” Kerberus looked up at Sakura, “You don’t have a club, do you?”

“Not today,” Sakura shook her head.

“Then, let’s find her keepsake, today. I’m gonna help you,” Kerberus thumbed up to her.

“Thank you, Kero. OK, we’ll find one,” Sakura stood up.

Sakura and Kerberus looked for a keepsake in the storeroom, but they didn’t find anything. They didn’t have any clue.

They tried searching in the room that Nadeshiko had used. They found many of her dresses and jewels.

“Hoee, Mom had many dressees and jewel like that!” Sakura exclaimed.

“Hey, we don’t have much time,” Kerberus warned, “Concentrate, Sakura.”

Nadeshiko’s room was like a storeroom; there were piles of boxes and clothes.

“Hey, Kero, I found.”

“What did you find?”

In the box were a pink necklace and a picture. The picture was of eight girls who wore the same necklace as that pink one. They were Lucia the pink pearl, Hannon the sky blue pearl, Lina the green pearl, Karen the purple pearl, Noel the marine blue pearl, Coco the yellow pearl, Jenny the orange pearl, and Nadeshiko the aqua-regina.

“There are more mermaid princesses... I gotta find them to figure out where my sisters are,” Sakura said in determined look.

Meanwhile, Tomoyo was exchanging emails at home with Meiling. She told her that Sakura felt gloomy lately.

Sakura doesn’t seem to be in high spirit these days.
How can I cheer her up?
-Tomoyo

She emailed Meiling. She got a reply in five minutes. It read:

Is that so. Syaoran feels blue lately, too.
He is depressed because he can’t see Sakura?
I’ll ask him to come to Japan tomorrow.
-Meiling

Tomoyo made a reply immediately to Meiling:

That’ll be a nice idea. Sakura will be happy.
However, she got depressed just yesterday, when we
had two transfer students.
-Tomoyo

Reading this, Meilin wondered, “Do the two transfer students have anything to do with her depression? There’s no other ways... I’ll ask Syaoran to go to Japan.”

She ran to Syaoran’s house to talk about it.

“Syaoran. Syaoran” she called.

“Oh, Meiling, what is it,” Syaoran replied.

“I’ve got one thing to ask you,” Meilin said.

“Ask?”

“I want you to go to Japan,” asked Meiling, “and go visit Sakura in Japan. Please.”

“Hey, that’s all of a sudden...” Syaoran was surprised, “Why do I have to go to Japan?”

“Sakura is depressed lately. Tomoyo told me about this. So please, visit her, please.”

“Uh... All right. I’ll ask Mother for permission,” Syaoran nodded.

“Thank you, Syaoran.”

Soon afterward, he asked his mother for permission he goes to Japan. She approved him to go. He decided to take a flight next day.

“I guess I have to tell her,” Meiling emailed Tomoyo.

Hey, Tomoyo. Syaoran is coming to Japan tomorrow.
Tell Sakura he’ll be there.
-Meiling

“Transmit!” she sent the mail.

Tomoyo received the email. “I hope he can cheer her up...”

On the other hand, Sakura was still looking at the picture that she found, “Mom... why didn’t you tell me?”

“Sakura...” Kerberus didn’t find a nice words to say.

At this time, they sensed a magical power. It was stronger than Clow Reed’s.

“This presence... is from my sister...” Sakura mumbled.

“Your sister?” Kerberus looked puzzled, “How do you know?”

“I used the Dream Card last night,” she explained, “I was in the middle of Pacific Ocean, and walked under the sea, and saw Mom and triplet mermaid princesses... and saw myself (three years of age). Suddenly, the eldest sister was kidnapped... and Mom was killed.”

Kero began, “Then, let’s get going before anyone gets involved. Here’s the work of the Cardcaptor!”

“Yeah, let’s go. Oh, yeah, I’ll call Tomoyo.” Sakura called Tomoyo.

“Hello, this is Tomoyo. Oh, Sakura!”

“I just sensed a magical power. Are you coming?”

“Why not?” Tomoyo replied with starry eyes, “I’m so happy that you wear the costume I just finished!”

“Come on... Tomoyo...” Sakura sweatdropped.

They went to the source of the power. It was Tsukimine Shrine.

“Kero...” Sakura whispered, “I sensed the power from there.”

“I don’t have a clue,” Kerberus frowned, “Eriol is in England. Nothing can be happening.”

“Nothing happens around here, Sakura,” Tomoyo turned to Sakura, “Sakura...? Hey, Sakura!”

“What? Sakura, what happened?” Kero shouted.

“Ugh... My head...” Sakura groaned in agony, “No... Somebody... I hear somebody... singing... strange song.”

“I don’t hear a song,” Tomoyo mumbled.

“How come Sakura is the only one who hears it?” Kerberus gasped.

“Help me...” Sakura groaned.

“Sakura!” Tomoyo cried.

Sakura collaped to hear the strange song. Kerberus turned back into his tiny form and they took Sakura home. At this time, two girls were watching them on a branch of the cherry tree in Tsukimine Shrine. It was Norah and Sarah.

“It worked pretty well, very easy,” Norah said, “Then we can find the pink pearl mermaid princess for sure, Sarah.”

“Definitely true,” Sarah chuckled.

Yes, it was Norah and Sarah who sang the song to torment Sakura. They used to be the white and the orange pearl mermaids, but was caught by Jake—got their pure kind hearts changed into evil minds—now they worked for evil Jake. The white pearl mermaid princess never regains herself without the aqua-regina. (The orange pearl mermaid princess gets back to herself when she remembers the past.)

Sakura took a rest back at home. Kerberus asked what had happened to her. She shivered in fear, “As soon as I stepped in Tsukimine Shrine... I heard a song. Hearing the song... I couldn’t breathe... And I found I was here.”

She looked around and said, “Where’s Tomoyo?”

“She went home,” he replied, “Only you heard the song... I guess we better call the brat. Sakura, give me the brat’s phone number.”

“Sure, but what for, Kero?”

“I’m gonna tell him to come to Japan,” he replied, “He is the only one who can protect you.”

“Uh... all right. You can call him,” Sakura agreed.

“OK, here we go...” He pushed buttons on Sakura’s cell phone.

Meanwhile, Syaoran was looking at the starry sky at his house, mumbling, “Sakura...” His cell phone rang.

“Yeah, Syaoran. Is it you, Kerberus? What do you want?”

“Hey, how can you be so blunt... Oh, no time to fight,” Kerberus held his attitude, “I’ve got one thing to ask you.”

At this time, Sakura heard the song again. She groaned pressed her own head.

“Sak-Sakura! Keep yourself, Sakura!” Kerberus shouted.

“I... can’t breathe...” Sakura groaned.

“Sakura... What the heck is happening? Answer me. Sakura...” Syaoran got upset, “Kerberus, I’ll be there right away. Hold it.”

“I got it. I’ll talk about it later,” Kerberus replied.

“Yeah, take care of Sakura.”

“Right-o,” Kerberus said.

Syoaran immediately headed for Japan. He arrived in Japan in six hours. He came to Sakura’s house.

“Sakura! Hey, Kerberus, is Sakura OK?” Syaoran asked when he comes in.

“That happened again when I was talking to you on the phone,” Kerberus replied.

“Again?” Syoran turned, “You’re saying it wasn’t the first time?”

“Yeah... she heard a song, but only she can hear it,” Kerberus began.

“Explain. What the heck happened to Sakura?”

“It was seven hours ago,” Kerberus reported, “We sensed a strong magical powers at Tsukimine Shrine. We got there, but nothing happened. When I got sighed and turned to look at Sakura... I found her fade. That’s all.”

Syaoran turned quiet, but looked like he was thinking, so Kerberus asked, “Do you know something?”

“Nine years ago... when I was three. I was on a boat in the sea. I saw mermaids on a reef,” Syaoran stammered.

“What color... What color was the pearl of the mermaid?” Kerberus demanded.

“I don’t remember the color...” the boy mumbled, “But I remember she tied her hair into double pony tail...”

Sakura woke up this time.

“Where am I?” she mumbled.

“You woke up? Good to see you OK,” Syaoran sighed with relief.

“Syaoran, why are you here?”

“I called him,” Kerberus replied, “Because you faded, he worried about you.”

“Thank you, Syaoran, for worrying about me,” Sakura wearily smiled. “Oh, no!” she screamed.

“What’s wrong?” Kerberus said.

“Missing...” Sakura replied, “The picture and the necklace are gone.”

“We found them today, and they’re gone,” Kerberus narrowed his eyes, “Who stole them?”

At the moment, they heard a girl giggle. It was Sarah, “Come with me if you want them back.”

“Let’s get her,” Kerberus shouted.

“OK, I’m gonna call Tomoyo,” she picked up her cell phone as she stood up.

“I’m with you,” Syaoran said.

“Syaoran, you don’t...” Sakura hesitated.

“Let me join you. I have something to talk to her, so...” Syaoran said.

“All right. Then prepare for it,” she pressed the speed dial, “Hey, Tomoyo... I’m fighting against Sarah... Are you coming?”

“I’m coming! Yes, I just finished a new costume for you,” Tomoyo cheerfully replied, “Try it on and give it your best!”

“All right... I’ll give it my best shot. We’ll meet at Penguin Park, ” Sakura hang up.

In Penguin Park, Sakura was dressed in the costume that Tomoyo just made. “That outfit is made of a strong material that doesn’t conduct electricity,” explained Tomoyo.

“Where are you hiding? I dare you to show yourself,” Sakura provoked.

“If you wish, I’ll sing a song for you,” Sarah appeared and began singing, “It’s show time. Bonge karr time, it’s the beginning. Play cool and beautifully. Bonge karr time, it’s the beginning. Powers of the beautiful darkness.”

“Ugh... I can’t... Help me...” Sakura groaned.

At this time, the aqua-regina appeared, “Sing, Sakura. You can sing it even if you don’t have your pearl. Come on.”

“She’s right. The others are captured by the evil,” Sakura opened her eyes wide, “Even if I was captured, I can sing. I can sing it.” She turned totally courageous.

Blown by the rainbow breeze
Heading for the cape far far away
I heard the melody before the dawn
That’s reminiscent of the old days
Birds are flying and heading for the east
They knew the short-cut to the treasure island
That is a paradise in the sea of everlasting summer
New lives are born when storms are gone
To show the love and peace
Melody of everlasting summer sea
O I won’t forget the day
When people have to leave there on their own

Hearing the song, Sarah remembered the past. She tried to figure out what she was doing, and then she cried.

“What in the world... am I doing? When I gotta collect seven colors of pearls...” She mumbled in tears, “Sakura, I’m sorry.”

At this time, Sarah’s dark hair turned into beautiful orange hair.

“Her hair changed,” Sakura got stunned.

“Our mission is to collect the seven pearls, and wake up the white pearl mermaid,” Sarah stated.

“Oh, sorry I didn’t know it,” Sakura said, “I couldn’t do so much as to help you.”

Sarah said, “You don’t have to say that. Now that we gotta change Norah back into her true form. To do that, we gotta call the aqua-regina first.”

“OK, we can do it,” Sakura said decidedly, “Let’s help the others. Kero, will you help us?”

“Of course, we are friends,” Kero replied.

“I’ll help you, too,” Syaoran joined.

“Kero, Syaoran, thanks a lot.”

“I have to tell you this,” Sarah spoke, “Actually, her name is not Norah... Nana is her real name.”

“Nana... then is she the white pearl mermaid princess? But she’s suppose to be in sleep...” Sakura was kind of confused.

“Now the evil mind is at work. Her pure kind heart is in sleep now,” Sarah replied.

“Nana was...” Syaoran half began speaking something.

“Hey, brat, did you see her before?” Kero turned to look at him in response, “Don’t tell me the mermaid you saw nine years ago was...”

“Yeah, I just remember. She saved my life.”

Sakura, too, was kind of surprise at his confession, “Syaoran... do you know my sister? Have you seen her yet?”

Syaoran slowly answered, “I sailed a boat with my father when I was three. But a powerful typhoon struck us, and my father was killed in the wreched boat. I found myself on a seashore, when I heard a white mermaid singing on a reef... as if she consoled me.”

“Oh, I didn’t even know that...” Sakura said.

“Sakura,” Sarah called, “Here, this is your pearl. Just keep it with you any time. Put it on, and you’ll transform into your true form. Now let’s hurry up and go.”

“Yeah, let’s go everyone,” Sakura said cheerfully.

“Yeah,” Tomoyo nodded.

Sarah guided them under the wave, down to the bottom of the sea. Nana was on the seabed.

“From up here, only mermaids are allow to proceed. So everyone, please stay here,” Sarah announced.

“There’s no other way, we’re waiting,” Kerberus said.

“Too bad I can’t videotape Sakura’s action...” Tomoyo sadly said, “Give it your best, Sakura.”

“Yeah, I’ll sure be back, with this costume,” Sakura smiled and replied.

“OK, see you,” Sarah started, “Orange pearl voice!”

Sakura followed, “Pink pearl voice!”

Sakura turned into a mermaid.

“Sakura is... a mermaid,” Kerberus stummered.

“We’ll save our sister. Everyone, stay here,” Sarah said.

Sarah and Sakura swam down to the ocean floor. There was Nana’s castle on the floor.

“Nana’s in the castle?” Sakura asked.

“Yeah, she’s been there since she was caught by Jake. Sakura, save her out of there,” Sarah said.

“OK, I’ll do my best I can,” Sakura replied.

On the other hand, Nana knew Sakura and Sarah were heading for the castle. “Hee hee, let’s see how tough you are,” she chuckled.

The two mermaids entered the castle. They saw the glass cases confining the sky blue pearl, the green pearl, the purple pearl, the marine blue pearl, and the yellow pearl.

“Sakura, have you got your Clow Cards?” Sarah asked.

“Yeah, I do.”

“The Sward Card can break the glass apart,” Sarah said.

“OK, I’ll do it,” Sakura picked up the key of the seal, O Key that holds the power of the star, show the true form before me. I, Sakura, command you under the covenant. Release! Sward! There!”

Sakura cut through the glass cases.

“Hannon, Lina, Karen, Noel, and Coco,” Sakura called the names.

“Who are you?” Hannon asked.

“I’m Sakura, Licia’s child.”

“Is everybody all right?” Lina asked.

“Yes,” the other mermaid replied.

“Let’s wake up Nana,” Sarah began, “That’s our hope.”

“Right, let’s chant the spell together,” Hannon followed.

“Yeah!” the mermaids uttered in agreement.

“What are you guys trying to do?” Nana ground her teeth, and walked closer to the mermaid.

“Nana, turn back into your pure kind mermaid,” Sarah said.

“Who cares? None of you tried to find me for these years. I’ve been all alone for nine years. I was always lonely,” tears ran form Nana’s eyes. Sakura swam up to her and said, “The past never changes, but the future is always wating for you. Join the others and the door to your future will open up.”

“I’m sorry... Sakura... Sarah,” Nana cried.

At this time, the aqua-regina appeared, saying, “Nana, I’ll change you back into your true form.”
