Chapter 4: Sakura, the Transfer Student, and the New Card

~*~*~*~*~*~*~* In a dream ~*~*~*~*~*~*~*

Sakura saw three girls on a rock when she was walking on the seashore. The first one was cheerful with purple hair, the second one was adorable and cheerful with indigo hair, and the third was precocious with orange hair. Those three were mermaids. “Who are those girls...?” Sakura thought looking at them.

~*~*~*~*~*~*~* End of dream ~*~*~*~*~*~*~*

Sakura’s alarm clock went off beeping. “Sakura, it’s time to get up,” Kero woke up Sakura.

“Hoee! You scared me! Don’t be like that, Kero,” Sakura pouted. “You better hurry, or you’ll be late.” “You’re right, I’m gonna be laaate,” she screamed on checking the clock. Getting changed into her school uniform, Sakura is almost out of her room heading for downstairs, when Kero said, “You’ve been to the past, last night. Why don’t you tell me about it.” “Let’s talk about it when I get home,” Sakura replied when she went downstairs.

“Morning, Dad,” Sakura cheerfully said to her father. “Good morning, Sakura and Nadeshiko,” he greeted back, besides her brother was setting the table.

“Morning, Touya.” In response to Sakura’s greeting, the brother greeted, “Late morning, kaijuu.” Sakura stomped on the floor like Godzilla, barking at him, “What’d you say?” with a fierce look.

“Sakura, hurry up or you’re going to be late,” Fujitaka warned her. “Hoe... Hoeee!!” Sakura gobbled her breakfast. “’Twas a nice meal,” she said with her mouth full, before putting on her shoes and running out the door.

“See you,” Sakura rushed out, and made it in time, barely arriving at school. “Good morning,” Sakura greeted cheerfully, then Chiharu, Rika, and Naoko replied cheerfully the same way.

Tomoyo, Sakura’s best friend, smiled, “Good morning, Sakura.” “Oh, good morning, Tomoyo,” Sakura beamed at her as she took her seat.

“Sakura, you had a lot last night. Aren’t you hurt?” Tomoyo asked in worrying manner, then Sakura replied with a smile, “I’m OK. Thank you.”

Next minute, Naoko, Chiharu, and Rika walked up to Sakura and said in unison, “Hey, Sakura. We couldn’t give you this, but we brought it for you. Happy birthday to you, Sakura.” The three girls made the birthday gift for Sakura. “Thanks, you guys...” When she took the gift, Takashi stepped closer and said, “Birthday gift started in medieval France...” “Hoe?” “When they used to exchange gifts in a ball, especially on someone’s birthday,” Takashi continued as Sakura enthusiastically listened to him. “Is that so,” Sakura sighed her impression. “Down generations...” When his story went on, Chiharu pulled him by the earlobe, “OK, stop your useful information, or I’ll hurt you.” “Once I hear Takashi’s lie I’d quite like to listen up till the end,” Naoko commented as Sakura frowned, “It was just a lie?!” At this time, Mr. Terada came in. “Good morning, class. Today, we have three transfer students. Let me introduce each of them. The first up is... come in,” he motioned. The door opened slowly as a polite girl with long orange hair walked in.

“The first student is Elizabath Colon Malaysia from the U.S. She’s from a proper family. Be nice to her,” Mr. Terada introduced. “I’m Elizabeth Colon Malaysia. I’m pleased to meet you,” the girl greeted very politely. “You sit... behind Li,” Mr. Terada said, “The rest are sisters of twins. Malaysia, take your seat.” She walked toward her seat as she stopped beside Sakura. “Nice to meet you,” she said before taking her seat.

“Next, you two, please come in,” Mr. Terada said as the two remaining girls walked in. “They’re from Fukuoka, the first twin Rie Shizumoto, and the second Mie. Be nice to these new students.” “Nice to meet you. I’m Rie Shizumoto.” “Mie Shizumoto. Pleased to meet you.” The first twin had indigo short hair, and Mie had purple short hair.

“Where should I seat them... next to Li... and next to Kobayashi. Rie, you sit next to Kobayashi, and Mie sit next to Li. OK, take your seats,” he said. Sakura was in a floaty mode to see Elizabeth Colon Malaysia, just because she was so pretty. On the contrary, Syaoran was glaring at her just the same way he did when Ms. Mizuki had first appeared in Tomoeda Elementary.

The bell tolls to sign the beginning of the second period. “You guys proceed to the home ec classroom for the cooking practice,” Mr. Terada announced, “you guys can make it good without me there, can’t you?”

“Yes,” the students responded in unison. They started walking to the home ec classroom. Sakura decided to talk to Elizabeth. She took a deep breath and said, “Hey, let’s go together, shall we?” “Sure, let’s,” Elizabeth replied with joy. Most of the children from proper families study at home taught by tutors, or at high-class private schools. Elizabeth had studied at home taught by tutors; that was why she had no friends who talked to her.

On the way to the home ec classroom, Elizabeth asked Sakura, “May I have your name?” “Sakura Kinomoto,” she replied.

“Your name means pretty cherry blossoms. Do you mind if I call you Sakura?” “Not at all,” she said, and thought what she should call the pretty transfer student as her friend, “Ummm...” Seeing Sakura thinking hard, Elizabeth said, “My name is long and hard to pronounce, isn’t it?” “Hmm... How about Liz?” Sakura suggested. Elizabeth replied, “Sounds nice. Now we are friends.” The two girls shook hands. “Oh, we better hurry up,” Elizabeth cautioned, then they ran to the home ec classroom.

“Today, we will bake baumkuchens. First, check the gredients. Report if something’s missing. OK, start,” the home ec teacher directed. Sakura’s group included Tomoyo, Rika, Naoko, Chiharu, and Elizabeth, among whom Elizabeth is the only one with experiences of baking baumkuchens. “Umm... Tomoyo, have you made a baumkuchen?” Sakura timidly asked. “No, I haven’t. I think I’ll learn from Elizabeth...” Tomoyo replied. “Tomoyo, put some milk and sugar. And take the white from the egg...” Elizabeth taught the group how to make the cake.

An hour later, a marvelous baumkuchen came out of the oven. “Elizabeth is polite and pretty,” the girls in the class were whispering each other, while the cake of Sakura’s group was completed. “Now, all we have to do is cool it down,” the polite girl said. Thanks to her, the baking was finished smoothly. On the other hand, Syaoran was still glaring at her. At this time, the bell tolls to sign the end of the second period.

Syaoran called Sakura out to the courtyard. “What is it, Syaoran?” Sakura asked in a puzzled look. He replied, “Don’t you have a clue? There’s something behind Malaysia girl.”

“Oh, Syaoran, what in the world are you talking about?” Sakura blinked her eyes. “I got the same feeling as when I first met Ms. Mizuki. Some magic powers are coming out from her. Her power is stronger than Eriol’s. You gotta be careful,” he warned before walking away. “Be careful... of what?” Sakura mumbled.

Sakura decided to hang out with Tomoyo. “I want to invite one more girl,” Sakura said to Tomoyo. “Great, who do you want to invite?” Tomoyo replied. “Ugh... Naoko and Chiharu are busy with piano lessons, Rika is busy with practice of ballet...” Sakura stuttered, when Rie and Mie Suzumoto walked by. “How about Rie and Mie?” Sakura suggested. “Good idea. We can guide them in Tomoeda,” Tomoyo agreed.

In the place of timid Sakura, Tomoyo asked them, “Rie and Mie, you got time? You want to hang out with us if you may?”

“Mie has a piano lesson, today... but I’m OK,” Rie replied, “Oh, may I have your name?”

“I’m Tomoyo Daidouji, and that is Sakura Kinomoto. Let’s play together in my house. If you get lost, call me,” Tomoyo said before walking back to Sakura. “Thank you, Tomoyo... I’m not good at talking to strangers,” Sakura sighed.

“You’ll be good for sure. You’re so cheerful that I guess you’ll have no problem starting conversation,” Tomoyo encouraged Sakura. “Oh, thank you...” At this time, Sakura sensed a presence, similar to the presence of Sakura Cards.

“I’m sensing some Card. Where is it?” Sakura concentrated. “I can feel it... but where? I know. It’s in Penguin Park.” Sakura rans to Penguin Park. “Sakura, wait up...” Tomoyo followed her.

On getting to the park Sakura start thinking what Card it was. “What kind of Card? Associated with Watery, Light, Song... what Card is it?” Thinking over what Card it was, Sakura found out one thing, “This card... one half is missing... Is it a Card like the Twin?”

At this time, the Card appeared. It looked like a staff—a long staff with a big circle at the end with eight of strange shaped holes.

“I wonder... if it’s a Sakura Card,” Sakura read out the presence, “O Key that hides the power of the star, reveal your true form before me. I, Sakura, command you under the covenant. Release! Wind, be a chain that binds, Windy!” Sakura sealed the Card with the Windy Card, but there was no name on the sealed card. Besides, the visible form was drawn partly—only its stick part. What was wrong? Every Card that had been captured has a name written on the Card. Sakura was lost in thoughts. “Hmmm... I guess I’ll talk it to Kero and Syaoran,” she said to herself as Tomoyo came to her. “Sakura, are you all right?” she said with worries. “I’m fine. Tomoyo, look. I got another Card,” Sakura showed the new card to her friend, however, Tomoyo was not fulfilled, “I missed the appropriate footage even though I brought my camcorder.” Next minute, she turned and said, “You wanna visit Suzumoto sisters?” Sakura agreed with the suggestion, and they started hearding for Suzumoto’s house.

At this time, four girls are behind a tree in Penguin Park. “Carina did a good job, and we’re all right, Sara,” one of the girls said.

“But we’ll soon be caught. Kill her so we’ll be OK for good,” another girl replied before they left. Sakura didn’t even notice the conversation. Sakura and Tomoyo visited Suzumoto sisters, played together, and went back home.

“I’m home,” Sakura said, but no one was there. Her father and big brother said they would come home late. Good opportunity, she thought going upstairs to her room.

“Kero, I’m back,” she said when Kero was playing a video game. “Welcome back,” he replied even playing the game. “Guess what, Kero. I found a Card today.” Kero was surprised and shouted, “Really?!”

She talked in details about what had happen earlier in that day. “Hmm, you found a card and sealed it... then what card was it?” he asked.

“It’s nameless... There’s no name written on the card. It was only the stick—the left half is missing,” she replied. Kero thought for a minute before advising, “Eriol might know sometihing.” The moment she picked out her cell phone, it rang. She answered, “Hello, Sakura speaking.” “Hi, Sakura,” the call was from Eriol. “Hi, Eriol. I just have something to talk to you.”

Sakura talked to him about the Card she captured earlier in that day. “I know... It was the Card you assumed in your mind. You’ve been thinking of something. The card has no name, perhaps because you’ll have to capture all the Sakura Cards and merge them into one. How many cards do you have to capture?” he asked. She thought for a few minutes, and answered, “Eight cards, perhaps.” “Among the eight, I guess, one card will be incredibly difficult to capture,” Eriol commented. This time, the phone was disconnected. “Eriol... Hello!” No matter how many times she redialed, there was no connection. When she walked back to her room Kero asked, “Tell me what you started to talk about in this morning.” Sakura nodded saying ”Yes.”

“I saw everything all the same that I saw when Nana... my big sister was around. I saw myself as a little kid crying...” Sakura replied.

“Uh... things are getting complicated. Call me whenever you sense a Card, kiddo.”
