Chapter 2: Gift from the Heaven

The bell tolled to sign the beginning of the first period of class.

“The first period, you guys take a math exam. Did you prepare for the exam?” the teacher said. More than half of the students answered yes.

“Now, start,” the teacher motioned.

“Hoeee, too difficult...” Sakura got upset. On the other hand, Tomoyo wrote down the answers without difficulties. Sakura could solve only problems of fractional multiplication. Time went by as Sakura was struggling to think of an answer.

“OK, time up. Guys on the back, collect the sheets and bring them to me,” the teacher said.

Sakura groaned in lack of confidence, but Tomoyo, Naoko, and Sayaoran looked quite confident.

“I’ll give you back the exam sheet in the second period,” the teacher said, “Let’s take a break for 5 minutes.”

The kids were talking with the friends in the break.

“Hey, Tomoyo, how was the exam?” Sakura eagerly asked.

“Well... I guess it’s the same as usual,” Tomoyo replied with a smile.

“Exam in the olden times...” Takashi began all of a sudden.

“Hoe?”

Takashi continued, “included 100 problems on one sheet, so people had to make a good preparation to memorize all the things. That’s why there were almost no people that got 100 %.”

“Hoeee...” Sakura uttered in surprise.

Hearing his story, Chiharu pulled his earlobe, heading for his seat, “OK, OK, now let’s take a seat, boy.”

Naoko walked up to Sakura and whispered, “Psst, Sakura, what Takashi talked about is all untrue.”

“Not true?!” Sakura exclaimed. At this time, Syaoran said behind her, “Ah, I knew he was lying.” (In fact, he was fooled, too.)

“Now the second period,” Mr. Terada came in the classroom, “I’m giving you the results of the exam. When I call your name, come and take your results.”

“Yanagisawa, Ota, Yamazaki, Daidouji, Li...” He called names one by one, and Sakura got her result. She got 85 %. She got a little depressed. “Tomoyo, what about yours?”

“I got a hundred,” Tomoyo replied. “That’s good, how about yours, Syaoran?” Sakura turned back.

“Ninety-eight. How about yours?” At his words, Sakura hesitated to make a reply.

Mr. Terada said, “We’ll have transfer students in this class tomorrow. You guys, be nice to them.”

The students of the class 4-2 answered “yes.”

“OK, class dismissed.”

“Good night, Mr. Terada.”

“Tomoyo, are you ready to go?” Sakura asked Tomoyo.

“Yeah, I’m going to make your costume as soon as I get home,” Tomoyo replied, “Do you mind if I host your birthday party at my house, Sakura?”

“Not at all... but is it OK for your mother?” Sakura felt kind of worried.

“Of course. Mom said she wanted to give you a gift,” Tomoyo replied, “I know, drop by my house on your way home.”

“What for?” Sakura looked puzzled.

“Hey, don’t think about it, and let’s go,” Tomoyo smiled and took Sakura’s hand.

Five minutes’ walk, they arrived at Tomoyo’s house. Tomoyo’s house was a big mansion that has a huge garden.

The party place was Tomoyo’s room. They decided the dress for the party in the room. “Which dress is most appealing? This one? No, it could be this one... Every dress looks good on you, I can’t make a decision. Hohoho...”

“Tomoyo, hello...” Sakura sweatdropped.

“OK, I’m gonna make a gift to you. Sakura, you wait in the next room.”

Sakura timidly walked into the next room, pondering, “I wonder what she’s making for me? I can’t wait to see it.” She had to wait for two hours for her to come out.

“Sorry to’ve kept you waiting, Sakura.” Tomoyo came out, “I’ll call everybody out, so please wait here for a while.”

Sakura’s heart began to race, because she expected the boy she loved most would be there. It was Syaoran Li, not to mention.

He had confessed his feelings to Sakura right after the battle against Eriol. In response to his feelings, now Sakura had romantic feeling about Syaoran as well.

“Syaoran... I wonder if he’ll be here?” Sakura repeated thinking to herself. At this time, her cell phone rang—it was from Kerberus.

“Hello... Oh, hi, Kero, what’s up?” Sakura asked. Kerberus replied hurriedly.

“We got trouble,” he continued, “I can sense an enormous power in your room, Sakura. It’s much more powerful than Clow Reed’s.”

“More powerful than Clow Reed? OK, I’m coming right away, Kero,” she hang up immediately. She jotted down a note, and left it on the table, leaving for her house.

Not knowing the incident, Tomoyo walked back to her room and noticed Sakura was gone. She looked all over the room and found a note on the table, which read:

Dear Tomoyo,

Sorry to have flown out. Kero called me and said, "I sensed an enormous power in your room." I’ll be back for my birthday party.
I have a favor to ask you, Tomoyo. Never tell Syaoran about this. I don’t want to involve him into the things just like the Arrow Card case. Never tell him, OK?

-Sakura

Tomoyo was anxious about Sakura. “I hope nothing bad will happen to Sakura,” she mumbled time and again.

Running all the way, Sakura got home in five minutes. Sakura and Kero are all alone in home. She ran upstairs to her room, where Kero was waiting for her.

“What in the world happened?” Sakura asked. “Sakura... something mysterious is about to happen, I feel it. Let’s ask the Cards about it. They could reveal its identity,” Kero advised. “OK, let’s do it.” She took a deck of Cards out of her desk drawer.

“I remember... shuffle the Cards well... put them into three groups... get them into a pile again...” She proceeded the steps of the fortune telling.

“O Cards created by Sakura, give me vision now. Show me if you may who is standing in my way,” Sakura spelt the incantation.

Sakura Cards glowed gold for half a minute before the glowing ceased.

“The first card is the Return. The three in the middle are... Water, Light, and Song? I wonder what’s standing in my way?” Sakura blinked her eyes.

Sakura didn’t have a clue. “Take a look at the last card,” Kero said. She took the last card.

“The Sweet... Hey, Kero. It makes everything sweet, doesn’t it?” Sakura asked.

“Yeah, that tells what our enemy is after.” Kero explained. Sakura thought hard to figure out the answer.

“Sweet... Chocolate... Oh, that could be Syaoran!” The moment she jumped on her feet to fly to Syaoran, she found something on her desk. It was a small paper bag. Sakura took a look inside and found a letter and a nacklace made of shells. The shells were pink, which held a pink pearl for each. “Wow, pretty necklace! Who sent me? Oh, there’s a letter. Let’s check it out.”

Sakura began reading the letter, which read:

Dear Sakura,

Sakura, how are you doing? I am watching you from the heaven.
It’s almost the right time I had to tell you the secret. To go on your journey, spell this incantation: "Power of the star, show me the way to the heaven, on bebalf of Nadeshiko’s daughter named Sakura."

-Nadeshiko

“Should I go check it?” Sakura asked worriedly.

“You should,” he replied, “So that you may know what’s the problem.” Sakura was perplexed because she wouldn’t perhaps be back by the time of her birthday party.

“All right... yeah. Then, let’s meet at 10:00 at Penguin Park,” she said, “I’m going to Tomoyo’s house first.”

“OK, bring me a cake, then,” Kero wanted a cake for a souvenir.

“Yeah, you’re a glotton. Oh, I’m gonna be late, I’m off!”

Sakura put on rolerblades, and skated to Tomoyo’s.

The birthday party was totally prepared in Tomoyo’s house, and Naoko, Chiharu, and Rika were already there. “Thanks for helping me. The preparation was done earlier than I expected,” Tomoyo thanked the friends with a happy smile.

“It’s nothing. We all are looking forward to Sakura’s birthday.”

“By the way, where’s Takashi and Syaoran?” Naoko asked. At this time, a powerful gust of wind blew everybody in the place. Sakura sensed a powerful force. “This presence... More powerful than any forces that I experienced before,” thought Sakura, and then call Syaoran.

“Hi, Syaoran! Where are you?” she questioned.

“In Penguin Park. What’s going on?” Syaoran replied.

“I’m gonna explain what. Listen...” Sakura told him about the fortunetelling she did with the Sakura Cards.

“Hmm... That means it’s after me. Right. I’ll be there with you,” Syaoran said. Sakura thought a little while and decided, “OK, I’ll meet you up in Penguin Park, so stay put.” She dashed to the park.

She got to the park, and ran to Syaoran panting, “Thanks for waiting.”

“Let’s go, Syaoran.” Sakura started the incantation recalling what she saw in the letter.

“O Power of the star, show me the way to the heaven, on bebalf of Nadeshiko’s daughter named Sakura.”

In response to the incantation, there appeared a way to the heaven.

“So that’s the way to the heaven. Let’s go together, Sakura,” said Syaoran. “Yes,” replied Sakura.
