Chapter 8: Life and Future

In Dai’s pit dwelling, Syaoran was sleeping in a comfortable blanket by the fire place. The old woman sitting beside him kept watching, and ocasinally wiped sweat off his forehead.

“Sakura...” he groaned in sleep.
“That’s all my fault,” Reko accused herself for everyhing that was happening, “What should I do if ever this boy passed away...?”

The shade of the pit dwellings on the hill was dimly illuminated by the moon light. The part of the hill that was never cultivated was still covered with woods. Over the area, the Shadow Card was traveling at an amazing speed, leading Sakura flying with whiz.

“I gotta hurry or he’ll be dead.” Sakura urged herself with teary eyes.

So fast and so close to the top of a tree she flew that a gust swang the stem, which flipped two baby birds off their nest on rebounding of the branches. The Voice Card told Sakura of the unexpected accident, “My master, there’s an emergency.”

Sakura made a steep turn with a gasp bofore descending into the woods. Luckily, she managed to catch the two birds safe in the nick of time close to the ground.

“Sorry, birdie, I didn’t mean to nearly kill you,” Sakura gently whispered, but panting.

She called the Wood Card to have it take the baby birds back in the nest, but strangely it wouldn’t obey her. At this time, the Shadow Card who had flew back to the spot was waiting for Sakura’s order.

“Mirror Card, come out,” Sakura called the Mirror, who emerged and stood before Sakura with uneasy look.

“What’s keeping you. If you don’t hurry it’s going to be late,” the Mirror Card said to Sakura.
“I wonder if I look like myself?” Sakura asked confusedly.
“Huh? What do you mean?”
“There’s something strange about me. See Syaoran is in such a terrible suffer, besides...” Sakura almost lost her mind.

Mirror knew what she meant, not just because she had copied her feeling time and again before, but because the two were a good friends at heart.

“You’re scared,” Mirror whispered, “to see Geso Li. You’re afraid that he wouldn’t be able to save Syaoran’s life, aren’t you?”

Sakura silently nodded kneeliing down to hang on Mirrors knees hopelessly.

“I’m so scared! I can’t describe how! Something bad ever happened and I would no longer be able to live my life,” Sakura was almost suppressed by the pressure of horror.

Sakura Cards popped out of her chest and floated around her, then the Light Card turned into its visible form as the representative.

“I, Light Card, the first subordinate to you, interrogate you. What do you want from us all scared off like that?”

Sakura gasped at the Light Card’s severe interrogation she didn’t even expect. Followingly, Mirror Card spoke to her, “You’re nearly disowning us. Just like years before, we will act on our own, causing mischief everywhere we go until we run out of evergy only to turn lifeless...”

Mirror’s comment gave Sakura a passimistic imagination reflecting the tragedic future awaiting the Sakura Cards.

“No, I won’t let that happen! That’s way too misery!” cried Sakura.
“Some of us love Syaoran, too. He used to be the other candidate of our master,” the Light Card pronounced definitely.
“We can be happy as long as you both are happy,” the Big Card joined, “All of us, including Kerberos and Yue, owe you the happy-going energy.”

Hearing the encouragement from the Cards, Sakura who had been sunk in dispair regained a light of hope in her eyes.

“You’re totally right,” Sakura replied with a positive spirit, “I was wrong. I’m the one who swore to Clow Reed.”

Sakura Cards were joyfully rotating about her, when she heard cheers from all of them. It was not long any more before she nodded to the Shadow Card who had been waiting for her move. But the next minute, the Windy Card flashed scattering the other Cards.

“What? You said watch out?!” Sakura widened her eyes.

From above the night sky, a strip of light descended at a fierce speed onto Sakura’s arms. With an incredible impact from catching the meteorite thing, Sakura fell backward in the reaction to slammed on her rear so bad.

“Aww... It’s you, Hope!” Sakura shouted. What she caught in her arms was the wary Sakura plush doll, who hopelessly murmured, “I found you... Sakura...”

Back in Tomoeda 21st century, people were enjoying their weekend peacefully, when old Masaki Amamiya was walking in Tomoeda shopping district with Iyo coming beside him.

“You need to take a rest?” he motioned her into a coffee shop on the street. Iyo followed him obediently. They look no strange among the folks around them, as if they were a grandfather and his granddaughter in good term.

“How do you like it in this world?” Masaki asked as soon as they sat down at a table.
“I don’t understand why they were fooling around like that? I guess they should be preparing for the harvesting season right around now,” replied Iyo.
“Haha, no one around here has a field to do a harvesting thing in the world,” the old man laughed.
“Anyway, I wonder how old you are. I guess you’re much older than you look,” she asked another question.
“I’ll be 78 very soon.”
“Gosh!” she exclaimed, “My old aunt is still under 40, though!”

A waitress brought them tea and snack. Masaki was relexed in the rich flavor of the tea.

“People’s life changed apruptly at the era during which you once lived your life,” he remarked calmly.

Geso Li was sitting at the desk with a vacant look in his room given in the basement of the palace. There’s a red bottle of liquor and snack.

“Meihua, tell me the truth. I don’t believe you ran away with another man to the United State hiding in the chaos of the revolution! Tell me it’s not true!” Geso mumbled in a depressed manner. The Geso Cards were in a pile in a fan shape beside him.

“Oh, not again. I don’t wanna hear him gumble like that,” complained the Flame Card.
“Typical symptoms of manic-depressive phychosis,” explained the Life Card, “Now the depression cycle comes up, and that’s the reason.”
The Teleport Card joined the talk, “The gold stamp he stole after all the effort he made turned out to be a fake. His girlfriend ran away with another man. Just by luck, he drifted to this cursed olden days, getting his magic stone robbed by the king of barbarians. What a poor man.”
“I hope he’ll get better,” said the Learn Card.

At this time, the Vision Card sensed a strong power, “Hey, guys, I’m sensing someone with way strong power coming closer! Incredible!”
“Is that his descendat you saw with your clairvoyance? I wonder what he looks like,” the Quake Card asked.

The Vision project what it sees onto before their eyes.

“Pretty, cutie, foxy! I want to answered to her!!” the Cards said out aloud.
“However, we gotta keep anyone from my master as long as they are hostile. Come one, Teleport!” shouted the Flame. When the Teleport casted its power they all teleported.

Meanwhile, Sakura and the Hope Card was hiding by the canal, besides, the Shadow pointed the direction to the palace, their destination.

“Sakura, here you are,” Hope gave Sakura the key to the seal.

“Thanks, Hope. But does it hurt?”
“I’m OK.” Hope replied.

Then they sensed strong powers coming toward them. The moon light above them projects the shadow of something floating onto the ground. Furthermore, a clump of flame appeared and leapt to them spinning. Sakura stepped aside in the nick of time, but Hope got her hand seared. “You, stupid crackpot... Aw!”
“The key that holds the power of the stars, reveal your true form to me. I, Sakura, commands thee under convert. Release!!” Sakura shouted the spell, astonishing Geso Cards in attack.

“They are Clow Cards? No,” the Flame uttered in surprise, “it’s not its pattern, then what the heck are they?”
“Extinguish the flame, Water, release and dispel!” Sakura shouted the command, then the battle between water and flame began above in the sky.

“For Christ’s sake, fall through the crack into the cener of the earth!” the Quake Card cursing, then the ground cracked straight, when the scream of people was heard from the village. Sakura escaped with the Jump Card, and she took out the Earth Card while she was in the air, calling, “Soothe the restless earth right now, release and dispel!” Sakura’s magic successfully fit the cracks of the ground to normal; obviously having an unmatched strong opponent, Geso Cards were totally disadvantegeous.

“Let me drop this heavy rock on them,” the Hover Card was trying to lift a gigantic rock flashing, when the Hope came flying emitting a while force field. The Hover Card was knock out by the impact only to fall down onto the ground.

“You saw that?” the Hope Card giggled proudly.
“Watch out!” Sakura cried a warning at the moment she found the gigantic rock emerge right above the Hope Card. The Teleport was behind this in fact. The rock started to fall toward her.

“Windy, Erase, and Sword! Release and dispel!” Sakura tripple-released the Cards. Windy swished to the Hope and rescue her gently out of the downward route of the falling rock.

“Goooo!” Sakura flew straight to the gigantic falling rock with the Sward in her hand, and swang it mightily as the rock was sliced into debris. Furthermore, the Erase Card caught every one of the falling debris with its uncountable hands before throwing into the erasing hole of space.

“Hope, Through, and Dark, follow my lead!” Sakura and the Cards made a steep descend down to the palace, with a side glance of Kukoku village in chaos.

Geso Li was leaning his face on the desk in the basement on the palace. A plush doll came up behind him rocking his shoulder to wake him up.

“Ugh...” whimpered with a vacant look on his face.
“Wakie wakie, wino,” the Hope said to the man.
“Umm... Yuck! It’s you, the Void Card!” he snapped back with surprise.
“No, my name is Hope! Cause Sakura always calls me this way,” she corrected.
“Load of good that did,” he was groping on the desk for the liquor. But the bottle was broken into pieces by a Card at the moment of “Shot!” screamed by a girl. The girl with the sealing wand walked up to him from befind the candle stand.

“It’s you, Geso Li, right? I need your help. Please save Syaoran Li,” Sakura said.
“What the heck do you think you’re doing? What did you say?! A member of Li family came to save me at last?”

Impulsively, he ran to the barrel at the corner of the room, and put his head into the contained water to sober himself. When he got his face up the water after he drank much water, Sakura had the Illusion Card show him what was happening to Syaoran.

“He has taken on the boy,” Geso muttered in droop, “poor boy, but I don’t have enough power.”
“Whay not?! I know you’re the one who treated his wound,” Sakura pressed him.
“There’s no use. He’s gonna be dead, anyway. That’s why I was able to used the Life Card, only to drive Iyo girl to the eternal hell of hatred.”

Sakura stepped back at the sudden change of the man in front—his manner of speak was competely different than a minute before. At this time, Geso Cards came back to their master badly beaten up by Sakura Card squad. As they blamed one another for their defeat, three Cards betrayed the others. Geso looked furious when they come up to him as they said, “We’re very sorry, but we can’t stand the way you act. We’d better take our own decision.”
“Listen, lady,” the Life Card revealed what was going on, “he was just playing with that boy’s life, only to lure you to trap in here because you have strong magical powers he needs.”
“Iyo decided to live with Dai all along, but a shrine maiden isn’t allowed to marry anyone,” emphasized the Learn Card.
“Cruelly enough, this crook used me to show her how happy you were at the very moment Dai’s was being killed,” the Vision Card continued.
“Because of her strong spiritual power, Iyo’s regret and despair remained after her death until you found her in the coffine. Her soul wasn’t at peace, I mean,” explained the Learn.
“Oh, poor girl, I didn’t know it,” Sakura mumbled in sympathy.
“Then why does Syaoran have to suffer like that?” the Hope questioned.
“Iyo’s wish was to live with Dai in peace,” the Life replied, “so Dai’s counterpart needed a live body to reside in, like you reside in that body. Our master took advantage of their distress and misled her to hatred. Geso didn’t care anything as long as the boy had a body to exchange, his suffering from anogy was out of his consideration.”

Sakura got furious to know what he was up to. He was such a wimp but cruel not having anything to consider, and all he did was taking advantage of someone in distress to satify his own ego. She couldn’t resist the irritation to yell at him impulsively, “Also, you tried to take advantage of us because of our powers to get you back to the future. You just turned us upside down for your daring ego trip!!”

“What are you going to do to me, the successor of Clow Reed?” Geso arrogantly spoke as if he was a different person from the wino in that place some minutes before.

“I won’t forgive you! For taking advantage of Iyo’s unsatisfied heart just to satisfy your own ego to get out of this world, and to draw us into this world. You are responsible for the unbearble agony Syaoran is suffering from!” Sakura frantically shouted, but her upset gave him a chance to escape; it was late she found him fading out, sneering, “Stupid girl, see you later! Teleport!”

“Wood! Get him!”

Goso and the four of his Cards escaped in the wall before the Wood Card could even reach him.

Darkness of night covered Kukoku as if it suppressed every voice of poeple down in the village. Sakura in despair was about to depart Kukoku with the Hope and her Cards.

“Cheer up, Sakura,” the Hope tried to encourage her, besides, Sakura pressed her ears with her hands as if she was blocking every word that was spoken. They went back home deep in despair.

There was buzz of a vacuum cleaner in an apartment in Tomoeda. Dai was vacuuming the floor, when Wei with a knock on the door peeked into the room without waiting for the answer.

“Dai, I have a little errand to go,” Wai said.
“OK, see you.”

Dai turned off the vacuum after he saw Wei off, and several seconds later, he stepped closer to the bookshelf and picked up the teddy bear on it.

“Survive... Syaoran.”

That was when a thunder cloud was seen through the window.

Sakura and the Cards arrived back at Dai’s dwelling. Perhaps because of the lamlight burning on all the time, it felt hot inside.

“Syaoran!” Sakura ran closer to her boyfriend, when Reko woke up.

“How was it,” Reko asked, but Sakura could do nothing but shook her head. Fortunately, Syaoran was still sleeping in peace. Sakura laid herself just beside him and fell asleep clinging onto him.

Next morning, fresh air in breeze was blown through the hill. In rice field, the ears of rice richly hang down. Sakura was feeding Syaoran holding his shoulder.

“I wonder if he can take it in,” Sakura wondered.
“I boiled it soft as you told me,” Reko remarked.

Sakura chewed a clump of rice and put it back onto her palm to serve it to him.

“Thank you, Sakura,” Syaoran painfully said.

“Thank you very much, old lady, for giving him your energy,” said Sakura.
“Nothing so much.” replied the queen, who was badly exhausted as she staggared about her steps.

“Grant your power to the sleeping spirit to be your aid, that’s the essence of the spiritual shamanism. But it wasn’t enough in this case,” Reko commented.

Eating up the affectionate breakfast, Syaoran lied on the bedding, but his agony got worse and worse as the time went by.

“Sakura, I heard you talk to the Hope that one of those Geso Cards will be able to...” Syaoran mumbled.
“Don’t say that!” Sakura blocked his words.
“I... want to be with you. Even down in the hell, I’d be happy as long as you’re by my side. But this is too misery,” Syaoran said panting.
“Oh, Syaoran, I... am scare of doing that myself.”
“I have faith in you, my sweetheart...”
“Oh, no! You want me to do it? What a cruel fate!” Sakura was just a girl crying over on Syaoran’s chest.

Professor Kinomoto was wandering about the exacavation site on Tomoeda hill at the sunset.

“No, this is not the place. But there’s no other possible choices,” the professor grumbled. At this time, someone walked over from the opposite side beyond the stakes driven aross the ruin.

“Touya, did you find something strange, too?” Fujikata asked.
“Yes, dad. I have a sister, I mean you have a precious daughter.”
“You don’t mean Iyo, Tomoyo’s best friend, do you?” Fujitaka emphasized.
“You two finally found the truth.” Yukito walked up out of no where with Kero in his arms.

“Yukito, what do you mean?” gasped Fujitaka.
“Yuki! No, Yue’s personality is now on the spot.” Touya pronounced.
“The man who inherits Clow Reed’s spirit, your daughter shall be back, along with her lifetime partner.” Yukito showing Yue’s sharp glare was gazing the crescent high in the sky.

The crescent at the sunset was illuminating the village of Yakoku. Syaoran was laid on the bedding on the floor, baring his body from the waist up to show the painful laceration. Sakura wincing the scene held the key to the seal, with the Hope Card sitting just beside her. Three of the Geso Cards: the Life, the Learn, and the Vision floated as the Life Card talked to Sakura,“Right. Release the chain of restriction on us, and get us under your control as soon as possible. Then give me an order leavin everything up to me.”
“Oh, my new master, I work on learning things. I’m useful,” the Learn Card introduced himself.
“This is my speciality, and I used to do this in China, but I can give you a vision of leaflet for a bargain before anyone else,” the Vision Card said followingly.

Sakura sniffled laghter. Actually she was beginning to like the new three Cards, “Are you ready be under my control?”
“Yes. Our creator Geso Li neglects our feelings,” the Life replied.
“Sakura, the moon’s on the meridian. This is the time,” the Hope whispered.

Sakura started her spell, “The key that holds the power of the stars, reveal your true form to me. I, Sakura, commands thee under convert. Release!”

An enormous power rippled as a huge magic circle appeared glowing over all the dwelling, when Sakura Cards were glowing on Sakura’s right hand side. All the glow was sucked into the sealing wand as the wand turns into its hyper form, the same form revealed when Sakura defeated Eriol’s darkness. The hyper staff was too heavy for Sakura to hold it with her fine arms.

“This is way too heavy...”

When Sakura nearly gave up, Reko sent her power onto her. Then the roar of evil spirits echoed over all the dwelling.

“Don’t be afraid. Those spirits came to help you.” Reko said in telepathy.
“I got it, thanks,” Sakura replied psychically.
“Mistress of the Cards, now’s the time!” the Hope motioned, revealing her void power out of her body.

“Void Card, cancel out the chain that binds the three Cards!” Sakura commanded. White powerful magic ripples of the Void Card encircled the three Cards, erasing the emblem of the Geso Cards into white like bleaching. Seeing the change of the look on the Cards, Sakura shouted the remaining spell, “Card without a master, discard your old bonds and be reborn, under the name of Sakura, the new mistress!!!

The Learn, the Vision, and the Life Cards got the emblem of Sakura Cards on their back. Another magic circle emerged from Syaoran, glowing powerfully.

“Life Card!”

In response to Sakura’s command, the Life Card flashed rhythmically like heart beats as her staff floated up staying above him.

“My master, the magic of healing is granted in your hand,” the Life Card said to Sakura. Her hand was encircled by a gentle halo. As her hand ran over along Syaoran’s laceration with a gentle touch, the festering turned pink before disappearing as if it was absorbed inside.

An enormous power which however was unseen to ordinary people was rising from Tomoeda hill 21st century. It was the power of the Time, the Change, and the Shield resonating together, which was rising to the moon. Yue and Kerberos in their true form were watching it, but it suddenly disappeared.

“It’s gone.” Yue gasped.
“It must be Sakura did a great job! I should have protected her before this happened,” Kero said.
“She’ll be right back,” Yue definitely said.
“How do you know that,” Kero said doubtfully.
“Cause she’s our mistress,” Yue calmly replied.

At the quarters of Amamiya Cooperation, Iyo was gazing at the ceiling on the bed in her room, with tears coming out from her eyes.

“No way! Please don’t come back! You’re the scapegoat for me.”

Syaoran opened his eyes slowly, then he saw a girl waiting for his recover letting tears running as is. She was expecting he would talk.

“Thank you... Sakura.” he mumbled.
“Syaoran, you’re back!”

Sakura hang onto Syaoran’s chest in tears, then he held her gently. They felt a happiness rubbing against their cheeks. Floating joyfully around them were the Cards, including the new Cards, who are touched by their mistress’ happiness.
